This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Friday, December 23rd.

The immature BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE was still present at Black Dog =20
Lake in Dakota County on December 23rd. It has been seen at the =20
western outlet near I-35W along Black Dog Road but it has been seen =20
at the eastern inlet as well. At least one ICELAND GULL and a few =20
GLAUCOUS GULLS can also be found at Black Dog Lake. And Karl Bardon =20
found an Iceland Gull on December 16th on the Mississippi River at =20
Hardman Avenue in St. Paul. A LONG-TAILED DUCK was also in the area.

Ed Duerksen and Lester Rupp reported a GYRFALCON from a mile =20
northeast of Pierce Lake in Martin County on the 17th, and I have a =20
secondhand report of one being seen west of Black Dog Lake on the =20
same day.

Two NORTHERN HAWK OWLS were relocated in the Sax-Zim bog along the =20
Stone Lake Road on the 17th. Kim Risen found a Northern Hawk Owl on =20
420th Street southwest of Tamarack in Aitkin County on the 22nd.

A Snowy Owl was spotted by Leslie Kottke in Ramsey County on East =20
River Road at Franklin Avenue on December 16th. Another was seen by =20
Beth and Ben Hamel on the 16th on roof of a house in the 1770s block =20
of Scheffer Ave. in St. Paul=92s Highland Park neighborhood. The Snowy =20=

Owl at Minneapolis / St. Paul airport is still being reported from =20
Cargo Road and two birds may be present here. On the 18th, Jen Vieth =20=

saw a Snowy Owl on Goodhue County Road 7 about a mile northwest of =20
Ryan and another was seen about two miles west of Bellechester. Herb =20
Dingmann reported one on the 18th near the Crane Meadows National =20
Wildlife Refuge in Morrison County. This bird was near the =20
intersection of County Road 35 and Inca Road. A Snowy Owl was seen =20
just south of Tamarack in eastern Aitkin County on the 19th. Warren =20
Lind found a Snowy Owl along state highway 61 at the junction of Lake =20=

County Road 3.

On the 17th, Karen Sussman found a SPRUCE GROUSE near Virginia, St. =20
Louis County. It was on county road 810 south of Gilbert.

Joel and Lisa Swanstrom reported a pair of TOWNSEND=92S SOLITAIRES on =20=

the 23rd at Ann Lake in Sherburne County. Park at the entrance of the =20=

unplowed road that goes to the Ann Lake campground and walk up to =20
where the cross country ski trail crossed this road. The birds were =20
on this trail about 100 feet north of the road.

A male VARIED THRUSH has been visiting the feeders of Lisa Schleisman =20=

at 440 Riverside Avenue South in Sartell, Stearns County, since the =20
11th. The feeder is adjacent to the driveway and visitors are welcome =20=

to park in the driveway to observe.

The next scheduled update of this tape is Thursday, December 30th.
