[mou] Great Gray Owl in Winona county present at 6:30 PM last night

Went to see the Winona county Great Gray Owl with my daughter
last evening. In the fast fading twilight I wasn't able to relocate the
bird, had given up because of darkness and was beginning to make
a U-turn when the 2 year old voice from the backseat said:
"I see the owl, Gray owl, right THERE!"
Sure enough, she was right again. Good birders, those two year olds...
their powers of observation are incredible.
On county road 6, 1/2 mile east
of county road 33 the owl was sitting on a post overlooking a small
creek, reminding me of a Kingfisher...
I-90 east from Rochester, then south for 1/10 mile on MN 74.
Then east on Winona county 35 for 3.5 miles to the stop sign.
Then south - still on CR 35 to county road 6.
Then east on 6 to the intersection with CR 33.
I saw the bird 1/2 mile east of here, where the road goes over the =
creek.
You could also take 74 south to Troy and then take 6 east to the
intersection with 33, I would think that way a person would
have a chance at Golden Eagle...
weird that the owl would pick the farm country in the western half
of Winona county when the eastern half is heavily wooded...
