This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday August 17th 2006.

A pair of SANDHILL CRANES was seen by Bob Dunlap on the 10th at Long
Meadow Lake in Hennepin County. The birds were in the northeast part of
the lake which is accessed from the trails at the Minnesota Valley NWR
headquarters in Bloomington.

A CAROLINA WREN was found by Cole Foster on the 12th in the woods south
of the archery range at Locke Park in Fridley, Anoka County. From
University Avenue turn east onto 69th Avenue and park in the southeast
corner of the Columbia Arena parking lot. Walk the paved path east about
100 yards to the archery range.

Over the past weekend, Warren Nelson reports that the rice paddies north
of Aitkin along Aitkin County Road 1 held seven species of shorebirds
including RED-NECKED PHALAROPE. Also present were five GREAT EGRETS.
Red-necked Phalaropes were also at Pool Number 4 at Carlos Avery WMA in
Anoka County on the 15th.

Other southbound migrants reported over the past week include COMMON
NIGHTHAWK, TENNESSEE WARBLER, MAGNOLIA WARBLER, NASHVILLE WARBLER,
BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, CANADA WARBLER, MOURNING WARBLER, WILSON'S
WARBLER, and NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH.

The next scheduled update of this tape is Thursday, August 24th 2006.
