Birding today in Canal Park and Chester Park in Duluth.
-Yellow-rumped Warbler found by Kim Eckert a week or so ago is still in =
the same place. The bird was actively flying around with Chickadees and =
Pine Siskins. The best way to view this bird is to park in Chester Park =
parking lot and walk back to the east and listen for the chips of the =
calling Yellow-rumped Warbler. The bird is found between the park =
entrance and Kent Road on East Skyline Parkway.
-5 Greater Scaup are still wintering in Duluth and busting records for =
each day they are seen. The Gr. Scaup were seen last Monday by Peder =
Svingen and I and today they were basically in the same spot behind the =
General Mills Elevator or also called Elevator A . All 5 were seen in a =
large open pocket of water behind the elevator.
-Long-tailed Duck is still wintering in the canal under the Lift Bridge. =
You need to sort through 300 Common Goldeneyes to find it.
-2nd winter Glaucous Gull was seen bathing in the lake and also on the =
pier with the black & white lighthouse on the end of it. Got photos of =
it.
-Peregrine Falcon is still hanging around the Cargil Elevator in the =
Duluth harbor.
-American Robin was seen at the UMD campus in the same area where the =
Varied Thrush was seen back in early January. Some feel the bird may of =
left this area since there have been no sightings of this bird for over =
2 1/2 weeks.
