The 2nd year male Summer Tanager is
still present along the Blue Hill Trail in the
Sherburne NWR.
I watched him from 5 PM to 6PM.
Also saw - briefly - a female Summer Tanager.
The male was seen from the lower trail,
he was in the vicinity of the 15 - 20 foot high
burned snag that is on the right side (east) of
the trail. He spent most of his time high in the
treetops east of the trail.
The female was seen from the lower trail as
well but she was high in the trees over the upper trail,
then flew into a small bush in between the two trails.
The male did not vocalize, and I saw them interact
only once, and very briefly at that.
If the male hadn't been out in the open originally
I doubt if I would have seen him.
The biting insects are out in force, plan accordingly.
