Clay Christensen, Val Cunningham, Ellen Lawler, and Holly Peirson birded
Sucker Lake, Ramsey Co. (entrance off Rice St. less than ¼ mi. S. of Hwy 96)
today. 53 species were seen or heard, including several heard Sandhill
Cranes! Around 11:30 we were on the ESE side of Sucker Lake, had stopped to
see a pair of Osprey go overhead, when the cranes were heard several times
to the WSW of our location (there is a big marsh at the S end of the lake,
perhaps they were feeding there…)

Other birds of note: 10 sp. of warblers: Golden-winged, Yellow (pair feeding
noted), Magnolia, Y-rump, Palm, Bl & Wh, Redstart, Ovenbird, Yellowthroat,
and Wilson’s. Other birds included Green Heron, Sora, Least and
Great-crested Flycatchers, Yellow-throated Vireo, Swainson’s Thrush,
Savannah Sparrow (in the marsh…), Rose-breasted Grosbeak, and Baltimore
Oriole, amongst the hundreds of Am. Goldfinches!

Respectfully,
Holly Peirson
Forest Lake area, Anoka Co.
