I subscribe to the WI Bird list serve as well as MOU & MN Bird.  
Wisconsin birders are reporting abandoned nests and nestling  
mortality as a result of the recent stretch of cold wet weather.  
Species that have been reported with nesting failure include Osprey,  
Bald Eagle, Robin, Bluebird, Meadowlark and Swallow. Some of these  
birds will nest again. For others the show is over for the year. How  
are our birds in MN fairing? Have any of you seen evidence of failed  
nests?

For those of us who monitor boxes on a weekly basis, this past week  
was really a downer.  The Aldo Leopold Audubon Society monitors 442  
nest boxes weekly from April 1 until all birds have fledged from our  
boxes (Sept. 10 last year).  This week was the worst "hit" we have  
had in the 4+ years we have been monitoring boxes.

We started out the best in our history by breaking our all-time  
occupancy rate of last year with 81.4% of our boxes having nesting  
attempts in them.  But this week the 20 monitors needed a "bluebird  
psychiatrist" as we lost 71 eggs and 186 nestlings.
