One of our Park District volunteers, Arnie Fredrickson, observed
Trumpeter Swan cygnets for the first time this year in our Park
District. A pair with 5 very small cygnets was seen on May 24th in a
cattail marsh east of County Road 50 south of the Park's main entrance.
This site is just east of the Crow River and difficult to view from the
trails. There are three other nesting pairs of swans in Lake Rebecca
Park Reserve, but those have not hatched yet. Most hatching occurs by
the first week of June. There also nesting pairs at Carver, Baker,
Crow-Hassan and Elm Creek Park Reserves.
