This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, May 25th. 

Gerlinda Doom had a LAZULI BUNTING feeding on orange slices on her deck on May 24th. The location is near the Wayside Park Rest Area in Marshall, Lyon County.

On May 22, Gary Johnson reported a TOWNSEND’S WARBLER in Owatonna, Steele County, at the Forest Hill Cemetery which is in the northern part of town east of I-35. I have no other information on ths bird.

Jan Green saw three RED-THROATED LOONS at Brighton Beach in east Duluth on the 22nd.

A SNOWY EGRET was found by Bill Marengo in a wetland in extreme southwestern Yellow Medicine County on May 16th. The location is on the east side of Yellow Medicine County Road 15 about 1.5 miles from the South Dakota border. Another was found by Ben Fritchman on the 23rd at a pond a few miles northwest of Rice Lake in Steele County. Take 94th Avenue north out of the town of Rice Lake for a mile, then turn west onto 36th Street. Go about two miles then turn north on 64th Avenue. Go a little over a mile, and look to the east for the Elk farm. Behind it is a large pond where the egret was seen.

Dave Sovereign reported a LITTLE BLUE HERON on the 23rd at the public access of Demontreville Lake at the southeast corner of state highway 36 and I-694 in Ramsey County.

On the 25th, Janet Riegle reported a RED KNOT on the lake side at recreational area bath house at Park Point in Duluth.  She also saw three WHIMBREL on the breakwall near the Superior Entry.

John and Susan Kroll found a NORTHERN HAWK OWL in Itasca County on the 25th, along state highway 65 between mile markers 194 and 195. This is about 18 miles north of Nashwauk. Frank Swendsen reported a second bird in Koochiching County on the 19th, six miles east of International Falls on county road 11.

On May 14th, a CAROLINA WREN was heard singing at the Old Cedar Avenue Bridge in Bloomington, Hennepin County. The bird was up the hill above the first long boardwalk, half a mile west of the parking lot and it was still present on the 19th.

On the 24th, Connie Brunell reported a KENTUCKY WARBLER at the Williams Nature Center in Blue Earth County, about 225 feet down the North Loop Lloyd Vollmer Trail. 

Alexander Watson found a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT in the southeastern section of the Carex WMA in Freeborn County on May 22nd.
