Hi,
My sister and I birded Blue Mounds Park in Rock Co yesterday and today. =
We arrived mid-afternoon and it was WINDY!!! I actually had trouble =
holding my binoculars still, it was that bad. We found it very =
difficult to bird in such high winds- couldn't hear the birds, nor see =
their movement in the trees. Although we did see briefly one blue =
grosbeak and one orchard oriole and some night-hawks, yesterday was =
rather a bust. =20
So we set our alarm for very early this am..... and it was beautiful!!! =
Beautiful weather (calm), great birds (lots) and the park scenery is =
stunning. Our best find for today was a white-eyed vireo in a tangle of =
shrubbery on the south side of Lower Mound Lake, on the path going to =
the Lower Cliffline Trail. We both had good looks at him, and listened =
to him sing for quite a while. =20
We also saw a nighthawk sleeping on a branch- the first time I've seen =
them that close! Other birds seen:
Several blue grosbeaks
Orchard orioles
Baltimore orioles (lots)
Indigo buntings
Grasshopper sparrows
Clay-colored sparrows
Dickcissels (lots!)
What a great way to spend the holiday weekend!
