There is a Summer Tanager regularly coming to a feeder south-southwest of
Rochester. The home with the feeder is located in a sub-development west of
the Willow Creek Golf Course that is located on 48th Street SW (which is
south of the Hwy 52 and Hwy 63 interchange). I have communicated with the
home owner and received permission to pass on the information,
To get there go south on Hwy 63 to the 48th Street off-ramp. Go west on
48th past 11th Ave and past the golf course on your left. When you see a
sign for the road narrowing, turn left on Scenic View Drive (it is not too
far past the golf course). Continue a short distance down that road and
then turn left onto Teak Wood Lane (a dead end street). When you get to the
highest point of this road there will be a vacant lot on the left. Park
near the group of mailboxes just before the vacant lot (note that there is
no parking on the north/west side of the street). The bird can be seen
coming to the feeders on the post behind the house just after the vacant
lot. You can look across the vacant lot to view the feeders from inside
your car. It has been seen in the square open-top hanging feeder and also
has been feeding from the wire mesh nut feeder hanging to the right.
Please be respectful of the home owner and the neighbors in the area.
