Seen at noon today, off Colischan Rd, in the Cannon River Valley, near the
Vermillion R.: an immature golden eagle, large white patches clearly visible
near the ends of the wings and the base of the tail--observed several
minutes by all, including Laura Coble, Sue Plankis, Diana Doyle, Rob Whyte,
and myself, and confirmed with the Sibley
To access Colischan Rd, take Hwy 61 to its intersection with Co. 46. Go east
(toward the Mississippi) on 46, to the fork; Colischan is the dead end road
to the right (but NOT the road leading south, with a closed off bridge over
the Cannon ). The eagle was viewed farther down Colischan, near the parking
area for the state forest land. If you choose to hike in this area, wear
something fluorescent orange, as we did meet one hunter there, while hiking
in on snowshoes and cross-country skis.
