Stopped by the Olmsted county "Snipe Spot"
and was surprised to find not one but six (6)
Wilson's Snipe!
Remarkable to me not for the species,
which is seen at this spot every winter,
but for the number of birds.
Time to start checking all those springs,
what else could be over-wintering?
>From Rochester take US 14 EAST to
Olmsted county road 10.
Take CR 10 to 15th St SE - about a mile -
and take a right going east to where
the spring fed creek crosses the road.
Look north into the spring.
The birds will be somewhere mixed in,
with luck they'll be in the green vegetation
so it'll be easy to find them.
This is right next to a couple of active farms
so make sure you leave room for the tractors.
The birds are easily seen from the road so
just stay in the car, you won't get "stuff"
on your shoes!
