The Afton State Park Townsend's Solitaire was refound today at about
2:00 PM, at the location previously mentioned. It was feeding on berries
in the deciduous scrub on the east side of the path, and spent some time
preening, before flying overhead and northward into the line of cedar
and pine. In preening, it fanned out its wing feathers so as to display
a broad, continuous stripe of buff coloring across the gray
background--very striking, as opposed to the broken-up appearance of the
peach markings when the wing was folded. The only vocalization heard
was a very soft set of notes reminiscent of bluebird sounds.
