Saw the Townsend's Solitaire at 12 Noon today. It was just south of the
usual area and the line of conifers and east of the trail that runs through
the Backpacking Campground. I observed the bird for about 15 minutes
preening and flying. At one point a male Eastern Bluebird flew toward the
Townsend's as if harassing it then the EB's went back to feeding on the
ground.
As I drove through Afton State Park towards the parking area I saw a
Northern Shrike. It was just past the bridge on your left after you went
down the hill from the park entrance building.
Observed Canvasback, C. Goldeneye, Redhead, Ring-Necked and quite a few Bald
Eagles at Prescott.
Stopped at Common Grounds Coffee in Lakeland for a delicious BLT and cup of
coffee and some good press for MOU and birders in general.

Leslie Marcus, Mary Alyce Krohnke and I also searched for the Townsends
Solitaire on Wednesday and were unable to find it. However, we did find a
first-of-the-year (for us) Wilson's Snipe, sitting on drift wood in the
creek we crossed about .5 of a mile from the parking area. It was directly
below the edge of the bridge, so we had a close-up and interesting view of

At Pt. Douglas in Washington County I saw 2 CANVASBACKS, 2 RING-NECKED DUCKS
& 2 TRUMPETER SWANS.
At the Lake City Marina in Wabasha County I saw 1 CANVASBACK, 1 GADWALL & 1
GREEN-WINGED TEAL
At Kellogg-Weaver Dunes SNA in Wabasha County I saw 1 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK
And finally at Co. Rd. 14 north of Hwy 42 and just south of 595th St. in
Wabasha County I saw the SNOWY OWL sitting in a patch of snow on the west
side of the road not more than 50 yards away between 3:00 and 3:30.
