On Friday the 13th the first year Kittiwake
and the first year Glaucous Gull were both
present on Lake Pepin behind the DNR at
3:30 PM.
The Kittiwake did not associate with any other gull,
when not in the air it stayed on the water.
The GLGU did associate with other gulls.
On Friday afternoon the entire lake was ice-free
and there flocks of gulls up and down the entire
length of the lake, I don't even want to estimate
how many there were.
"Oodles", or "eleventeen" is about as close a guess
as I would want to make.
My daughter would spread her arms wide and
say: "this many". She's probably closer
to the true number than I am.

The Snowy Owl was present on Wabasha CR 14 at 580th St
at 4:30 PM.

On Saturday morning the Green-tailed Towhee was
present in Mountain Lake.
On the way home we checked out the Cannon River in
Faribault but not see the Trumpeter or the Mute Swan
that had been seen earlier this winter.
There was a Great Blue Heron below the dam
near the bait shop.

In Dodge county west of Wasioja the non-countable
farm pond Mute Swans were keeping a small
hole in the ice open.
