Diane and I had a fortunate flyby of the Gyrfalcon this morning about 11am.
We were driving along 180th about a half mile west of Emery when the Gyr
came from the north and crossed the road about 100 to 200 feet in front of
us. Diane spotted it well before it got close to the road so we both had it
in our binoculars as it crossed over the road. It continued south for at
least a half mile and then veered to the east when a large flock of Lapland
Longspurs and a few Snow Buntings picked up from the field. We searched the
area (as did others in the area) but were only able to get one very quick
and very distant view of the bird flying away from us (viewed from the road
to the west of Emery). Hopefully others who stayed in the area were able to
locate the bird again - and hopefully perched for a longer view than we had.

The Mountain Bluebird was very accommodating at the spot previously reported
by Jim Mattsson (Thanks, Jim). It and a whole bunch of Cedar Waxwings were
using the tall deciduous tree a distance off the road to perch between
feeding forays to the cedar trees. Several people were able to see the bird
while we were there.
