The Green-tailed Towhee showed up today while I was at the Mt. Lake house
between about 11:45 am and 1 pm, appearing and disappearing into a dip
behind the feeders, and then appearing again, occasionally flying to the
bush to the left of the air conditioner behind the feeders. As reported, it
was present during the earlier morning and mid-morning. The day was bright
and sunny, about 27 degrees at noon, and this is a beautiful bird--the
rufous crown and green colors are impressive!! The Mountain Lake Bird Club
president and a birding couple were also there after I arrived, and were
very helpful in helping me to spot the bird from their car. Coincidentally,
the couple has a daughter living in Cannon Falls! The bird was still present
when I left.

For anyone who still needs directions: Coming from the east: Exit at
Faribault from 1-35 to highway 60, going (south)west. Continue on 60 to
Mountain Lake. Take the first Mt. Lake exit. Follow it as it becomes Third
Avenue to 10th St. Turn right on 10th St.and continue to the edge of town,
where there is a cemetary on your left. The pale green house is second from
the last house, on your right. Park on the wide shoulder, and watch for the
bird near the front yard feeders from there. At this time, you can't miss
the house, because there are many tire tracks on the snow on both shoulders,
where other birders have driven and parked.

If you are coming from the southwest on 60, take the first exit, which also
becomes 3rd Avenue, make a left at 10th St., and follow the rest of the
directions above.

Other birds seen at this feeder and the feeder next door while I was there:
5 A. Goldfinches, flocks of Slate-colored Juncos and House Sparrows, 2
White-breasted Nuthatches, 3 Blue Jays, 1 Grackle, and 1 Pine Siskin.
