This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday January 25th 2007.
The SLATY-BACKED GULL was seen daily at Point Douglas Park, Washington
County until the 22nd, and since the 23rd it has been reported at Black
Dog Lake in Dakota County. Point Douglas Park is on the Minnesota side
of the Mississippi River across from Prescott, Wisconsin. A male
BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was reported from here on January 21st.
A GYRFALCON was found by Blaine Seeliger west of Hastings in Dakota
County on the 19th, and it was seen as recently as today. Check along
180th just east of U.S. Highway 52. Another GYRFALCON has been seen
intermittently in the Duluth harbor, and was last reported on the 21st.
The GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE is also still visiting the feeder in the town of
Mountain Lake, Cottonwood County. From State Highway 60 exit onto 3rd
Avenue and drive to 10th Street. Turn north on 10th street and drive to
the edge of town to a cemetery and lake on the left. The feeder is in
front of the pale green house, which is the second to the last building
on the right side of the road.
The three GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCHES at the Fond du Lac Resource
Management Division office just west of Cloquet in St. Louis County were
all seen as recently as the 25th.
Andy Bicek found a PRAIRIE FALCON about seven miles west of Luverne in
Rock County on the 20th, near the Beaver Creek exit of interstate 90.
Two SNOWY OWLS have been reported from the Minneapolis - St. Paul
airport, with the best place to look being along Cargo Road.
The MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD southeast of Hastings in Dakota County was still
present on the 25th. This was at the junction of 175th Street east and
Presley Circle. From Ravenna Trail go west on 175th for half a mile and
look for the bird on the north side of the road.
The next scheduled update of this tape is Thursday, February 1st 2007.
