Minnesota birders are welcome to join this tri-state
auto-tour, all day or from Lansing, Iowa north to
LaCrescent, Minn. The group will lunch in Lansing
about 12N at one or all three eateries in town, then
proceed north on Hwy 26 into Minnesota at the north
edge of New Albin, Iowa. A major stop for Sandhill
Cranes & raptors is Poole Slough, literally on the
Iowa/Minn. state line east of New Albin. Add species
to your state lists. You will be in Iowa looking north
into Minnesota at Poole Slough. No visa required, yet!

>From the road near the entrance to the Goose Island
campground south of LaCrosse, (NOT at the entrance to
the park from Hwy 35!) a pair of Bald Eagles was seen
today, perched close together next to a large stick
nest in a tree west of the wetlands. Turn right at the
only stop sign in the park & scan the treetops
west(southwest?) of the wetland.
At the Dairyland Power Plant along Hwy 35 south of
Genoa, two Peregrines were perched at the nestbox on
the southmost stack this noon, March 7.
The Lansing Loop, a six hour auto tour along the
Misssissippi River in Wis., Minn., & Iowa is March 17.
Bald Eagle nests will be visible, & Peregrines may be
viewed at several locations along the route, plus
those likely to nest on the USBANK building in
downtown LaCrosse. The trip is sponsored by the Coulee
Region Audubon Society. Lunch on your own in Lansing,
Iowa, or bring your own. Meet at the entrance to Goose
Island from Hwy 35 at 7AM. Fred Lesher is the leader.
