Harold Nordin, my son, Anthony, and I spent an enjoyable day at below Enger
Tower on West Skyline Drive counting migrant raptors on Saturday, 17 March.
Total time: 7 hours from 8 am CST to 3 pm CST.
Count was as follows:
Bald Eagle: 165
Golden Eagle: 12-all adults, except one Sub-Ad. Golden Eagle times (CST)
were Ad. @11:20, Ad. @11:35, Ad. @11:55, Ad. @12:05, Ad. @12:20, Ad. @12:30,
Ad. @12:40, Ad. @1:02, 2 Adults @1:10, Sub-Adult @1:22, and Ad. @1:30.
Rough-legged Hawk: 3-two light adults, 1 dark adult
Red-tailed Hawk: 2
Local raptors included Red-tailed Hawk, Peregrine Falcon, and Merlin
Hundreds of ducks and geese and one Tundra Swan were observed in the warm
water discharge pool behind the WLSSD sewage plant.
