I am glad so many people got to see the red phase E. Screech Owl that =
has been at our nest box this winter. It was a lifer for many.

I have just met someone who lives several blocks away who tells me that =
a gray female and red (ours?) male have nested in their wood duck boxes =
the past several years. Last year 5 young were raised.

I have not seen our owl for several weeks. It may have stopped in from =
time to time because the pellets were pushed about in the box on two =
different nights. It has now relocated to the nesting location. They =
have asked for privacy, but have shared their video camera clips with a =
local naturalist.

I have replaced the wood shavings in the box as Wood Ducks are poking =
around the box now. I found that the 2 mice that were cached in the box =
were eaten and not just hidden in the shavings. This mouse caching was =
new to me, I have not read of E. Screech Owls doing that.

On another note, several times this past week Anne and I have heard the =
toot-toot-toot calls of a N. Saw-whet Owl in the tree line north of our =
house.

I hope to use the video camera to let everyone know when the ducklings =
may jump out of the box. Stay tuned for further updates.
