[mou] Birding Today

I was out guiding two birding couples today. One couple was from a small village in Spain and the other were from northern Italy. They spoke little English but they saw a ton of lifers in Sax Zim Bog and Park Point.

Highlight:
- 8 Sharp-tailed Grouse displaying on the lek on Co. Rd 29.

New migrants for NE Minn. Seen in the Bog.
-House Wren
-Nashville Warblers all over in the bog!
-Ovenbirds
-Black and White Warblers
-Palm Warblers
-Least Flycatchers
-Lincoln's Sparrows
-Brewer's Blackbirds

Migrants at Park Point:
-Forster's Terns (3)

*Driving up Owl Avenue was truly sad but there is still habitat for Conn. Warblers, Yellow-bellied Flycatchers and ect..  Most birders probably still envision the mature spruce and tamarack trees lining Owl Ave. well its no longer like that. All the mature trees from the bend of owl avenue all the way to Arkola Rd have been cut down.  On the west side of Owl Avenue ALL the trees/alder bushes have been cleared out about 20 yards away from the road.  ALL the trees and bushes on the east side have been cleared out about 70 yards away from the road.  Most of the young saplings or trees less than 8 inches in diameter were left lying on the ground along side of the road on the other side of the ditches! So Owl Avenue to me looks bare and ugly! I took photos of the what I saw this morning and I will post photos on my website in Recent Sightings so birders can see the shocking changes of Owl Ave. I will post the photos as soon as I send this email out.
