Spent some time yesterday afternoon watching two pairs (?) of raptors soaring high above in wide circles. They were far too high to identify but it was interesting to watch their flight. I noticed that the flight of the nearer pair would cycle from a smaller circle to a much wider circle with one flying clockwise and the other counter-clockwise. The second pair would remain at a distance much of the time but would then work it's way toward the nearer pair only to be driven off again. At some point the nearer pair split and the lone raptor soared very quickly overhead - it was lower at this point but moving too quickly to identify. It was enjoyable to watch.
Today I saw my first ever Rose-breasted Grosbeak. I recognize the song and am thrilled now to have a bird to physically match the song to.
