Paid a visit to Blue Hill trail today for White-winged Crossbills. Found them easily per Al Schirmacher's posted location. Thanks Al for the excellent directions! Trip included 33 total species plus one coyote on the trail and one good hike. Plug for "Buzz-off" clothing and 3M "Ultrathon" repellent.
Highlights:
- W.W Crossbills - male and female, still singing heartily.
- Small flock of Golden-crowned Kinglets, maybe a family group.
- Female Eastern Towhee with juvenile in tow - sorry, couldn't help it.
- Possible Yellow-bellied Flycatcher. In the pines, right habitat, right colors - however - not singing, so we do not know for sure.
- Seven Flycatchers (if Yellow-bellies correctly ID'd) including E. Kingbird, Great-crested FC, Olive-sided FC, E. wood-pewee, E. Phoebe, and Least (occasionally calling)
Great day at Sherburne!
