[mou] Franklin's Gull (not Laughing!), Olmsted County

Good morning! I want to apologize for the late post and for yesterday's mis-identification of the apparent Laughing Gull seen at both landfill reservoirs west of Rochester.  Chuck Krulas and I discovered the bird around 8 am and efforts were made pretty much all day to correctly document the sighting with field notes and photographs.  I hedged considerably before calling Jim Otto to post the sighting, but felt confident at the time the gull was Laughing.  After further viewing, a sinking sensation enveloped me and I realized a mistake had been made.  And, it was mine. I want to thank Jim Otto for posting the bird for me.  Also, many thanks to Paul Pedersen for his willingness to publish his photos.  The entire experience was invaluable to me and I feel better prepared the next time around. Again, my apologies to those who made or changed plans to chase the bird. John HockemaOlmsted County
