>
> As most of you know by now, last year brought a special "first" for
> Wisconsin. We had our first recorded nestings of Kirtland's
> Warblers, as
> three pairs of this endangered species were discovered breeding in
> Adams
> County! Hopes are very high that the birds will return to the same
> area
> again in 2008, and the US Fish and Wildlife Service and the
> Wisconsin DNR
> have offered a special opportunity to WSO members - a field trip
> that we
> hope will provide participants with the possibility of seeing
> Kirtland's
> Warblers. This outing is being carefully planned to allow a
> limited number
> of birders to visit one of the nesting areas under controlled
> circumstances
> that will seek to minimize any potential disturbance to the birds.
> These
> types of guided tours have been conducted for many years in
> Michigan, and
> have been shown to have little or no effect on the warblers. Please
> remember that there are no guarantees of seeing a Kirtland's
> Warbler during
> this field trip, but we are hopeful that if the birds return the
> chances

>
> This event will take place on Saturday, May 31st, and the plan is
> to have
> two busloads of birders (25 per load) over the course of the
> morning. The
> first busload will depart from a designated meeting point at 5:00
> AM to make
> their site visit, and then the bus will return before 8:00 AM to
> unload, and
> then pick up the second load of participants. Each busload will be
> split
> into two groups that will take turns attempting to view one or more
> Kirtland's Warblers. The other group will look for other birds
> that may be
> in the vicinity and an example of a cowbird trap until it is their
> turn to
> try for the Kirtland's. There will be a nominal fee collected from
> participants to cover the cost of the bus and any other incidental
> expenses.
>
> Due to the fact the level of demand for this trip might be quite
> high, we
> have attempted to arrange for a fair way to select the 50 lucky

>
> You may include either one or two names (such as for couples) on your

> We will also select a number of additional names for a waiting list

> Regarding photography during this outing: photography may be

> Please remember that all endangered species are protected by
