At about noon Thursday I found a very drab Surf Scoter on the Mississippi River between Minneiska and the Whitman Dam. This is along Hwy 61, between mile markers 40 & 41, .3 miles south of Latsch Park Rd, the entrance to John Latsch State Park.

The state line here is generous to Minnesota birders, and thankfully the bird came as close as 25% of the way across the river, making boundary issues a nobrainer.

Other fun birds today:

Flock of Pine Siskins in the town of Wabasha at the corner of Franklin and Main
1 lone Common Redpoll at Reads Landing flocked up with some Goldfinch at a feeder at the corner of 8th Ave and 1st St.
FOS Turkey Vulture just south of Red Wing.

Small numbers of adult Ring-billed Gulls all the way upriver - largest flock of about 50 at Colville Park in Red Wing, where there a dozen or so adult Herrings, and 2 immature Herrings.

Good numbers of divers, but couldn't find many dabblers today.
