Just had a wave of Cedar Waxwings show up outside my office window
here in cloudy, white washed Maple Grove. There had to be thirty
birds thoroughly picking bits of tree buds from within 20 feet of my
window to some 50 feet into the woods. Apparently stirred by all the
action, I also had simultaneously a mad dash by my residual flock of
goldfinches dripping from my multiport triple thistle feeder and wire
mesh feeder. For a fleeting worm hole of time, there had to be about
50 birds darting about outside my office, backdropped with freshly
accumulating white. In the midst of it all my wintering pale Brown
Creeper managed to attract my attention with its upward motions and a
Common Red Poll showed its feathers but quickly fled the chaos. Only
a brave downy woodpecker managed to pretend nothing new was going on.
I have also had throughout my stay this winter and saw today, but who
only showed up after the show on my other feeders, Red and White
Breasted Nuthatches, 2 Pileateds, two Hairys, and the usual cardinals,
mallards, crows and a few recent House Sparrows plus the expected
juncos. There is at least one raptor that I have not been able to pin
down yet but it is getting more regular. Perhaps next note.
