Had a backyard visit from the rare White Headed Sparrow in Duluth, MN.
today:) I will post a picture in the Minnesota Gallery of MOU of this little
sprite. It's actually a leucistic white throated sparrow, but the head is almost
completely white. My wife thought it looked like a "little bald eagle."
Before viewing the image, keep in mind that it was shot through a window and
was taken only as a record, in other words, (not the world's greatest image:)
I'm hoping like mad that the bird will return tomorrow, so that I can have
one more chance to photograph it (with the window open). Interestingly, during
the past two days, white throated, song, and house sparrows, have been
joined by purple finches, a common redpoll, and juncos simultaneously on this one
tray feeder, however, any time the white headed white throated sparrow came
to the tray feeder NO other birds would stay on the feeder with it. And
furthermore, while it fed, no other birds tried to challenge or kick it off the
tray feeder even though several birds were waiting to come back and feed.
Interesting....Happy Birding,
Shawn Zierman, Duluth.
