May 29th while hiking on the Astrid Lake Trail off the Echo Trail in
northern St Louis County, there was a male Black-backed Woodpecker,
Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, and Connecticut Warbler. Park at the trail
parking lot, but then walk the road to the hiking trail where it crosses the
Echo Trail and heads south. The trail as it heads south goes through a Black
Spruce bog and the trail has been elevated slightly on a primitive boardwalk
to provide access.
Many warblers are finally back including: Mourning, Blackburnian, Northern
Parula. Lots of Evening Grosbeaks are in the area around Crane Lake
visiting feeders.
