This is the Duluth Birding Report for Thursday, November 13th, 2008
sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

The male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE in the Duluth harbor was relocated on the
13th by Dave and Lars Benson at the Park Point Recreation Area near the
bus turnaround. They also saw two WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, two SURF
SCOTERS, and a BLACK SCOTER. Mike Hendrickson saw three RED-THROATED
LOONS on the 7th at the Lafayette Square 31st Street access. A female
LONG-TAILED DUCK has been seen since the 9th in the harbor near the Sky
Harbor Airport. Peder Svingen found a first-cycle GREAT BLACK-BACKED
GULL and a first-cycle ICELAND GULL on the 7th at Gull Bluff near the
Superior landfill.

Jan and Larry Kraemer found a record-late GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER on
the 9th along the Western Waterfront Trail at Indian Point Campground,
and it was relocated the next day. Don Kienholz found a record-late
SEDGE WREN at the same location on the 10th.

A NORTHERN HAWK OWL was found by Kate Kallenberger on the 12th along St.
Louis County Road 16 just west of the Makinen Fire Hall, near the sign
for the cemetery. Another NORTHERN HAWK OWL was found by Steve Lampman
on the 8th in Ely along the Trezona Trail on the east side of Miner's
Lake. A SNOWY OWL was seen on the morning of the 7th at the Stone Ridge
Shopping Mall along Central Entrance in Duluth. The SNOWY OWL in Grand
Marais was relocated on the 8th perched on a pop machine in the
municipal campground.

Jan Green saw a RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER on the 12th at her feeders along
Old North Shore Road in Duluth Township. Terry Frank also saw one on the
11th at his home near the Isaacson Road southwest of Two Harbors. Frank
Berdan found a TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE on the 12th along the 9400 block of
Congdon Boulevard (CR 61) northeast of Duluth.

The PACIFIC LOON at Burlington Bay in Two Harbors was still present on
the 7th out from 1st Street. Doug Kieser and Jim Otto found an AMERICAN
THREE-TOED WOODPECKER on the 7th along 1st Street at 3rd Avenue. They
relocated the two BLACK SCOTERS in the Grand Marais harbor on the 8th,
and found another at Paradise Beach, 14 miles northeast of town. They
found LONG-TAILED DUCKS at Taconite Harbor, the Grand Marais harbor,
Paradise Beach, Hovland, and Burlington Bay in Two Harbors.
