This is the Duluth Birding Report for Thursday, June 19th, 2008
sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.
A LEWIS'S WOODPECKER was found along the St. Louis River in the Billings
Park neighborhood of Superior, Wisconsin on the 16th, and it was still
present on the 18th. To reach the location, park in the non-descript
parking area at the west end of 21st Street and walk towards the boat
trailer parking. Walk the paved trail that goes along the river for
about 100 meters and scan north back across the river in the tops of the
spruces.
Mike Hendrickson found singing CONNECTICUT WARBLERS at three locations
in the Sax-Zim Bog on the 15th. They were found along the McDavitt Road
(CR 213) 2.7 miles north of the Sax Road (CR 28); along the Admiral Road
(CR 788) 2.8 miles south of the Zim Road (CR 27); and along the Arkola
Road (CR 52) 0.3 mile west of Owl Avenue (CR 203). Mike also found
BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS along the McDavitt Road and BOREAL CHICKADEES
along the Arkola Road.
Unless something unusual is reported in the next week, the next
scheduled update of this report will be on Thursday, July 3rd.
The telephone number of the Duluth Rare Bird Alert is 218-834-2858.
