Occasional in Ramsey County in the Winter season
After hosting the same flock of redpolls since the beginning of January, our front yard birch tree finally attracted an additional group today to swell the flock size to 37 including this female Hoary Redpoll. Photos show unmarked undertail coverts except for one "pencil-line" mark toward the distal end, unmarked white upper rump, relatively thin flank streaking, noticeably whiter upperparts and a stubbier bill compared to nearby Common Redpolls (more photos of this individual are available here: https://ebird.org/checklist/S101007480). Note that this individual appears to be a different bird than the one found on the Saint Paul campus of the University of Minnesota on January 16, which is just under 2.5 miles due west of our house.
