'Rare Regular' in Minnesota

Third-cycle Thayer's Gull at Canal Park, Duluth, 28 November 2010. This was one of 8 Thayer's Gulls (3 second-cycle, 2 third-cycle, and 3 adult) seen and photographed by Mike Hendrickson and Peder Svingen at Canal Park today; curiously, only one first-cycle Thayer's was seen and that bird was at the Superior Entry. An adult Thayer's was at the Superior Entry and another adult was at 27th Ave West for a total of 11 Thayer's Gulls in the Duluth area. We also refound an adult Nelson's Gull (hybrid Herring Gull X Glaucous Gull) at Canal Park and photographed the second-cycle probable Thayer's Gull X Iceland Gull that was first spotted at Wisconsin Point by Hendrickson 20 October 2010; throughout the month of November the latter hybrid has been seen most frequently at Canal Park. The drake Common Goldeneye X Hooded Merganser first found by Karl Bardon on the 27th was also present at Canal Park today.
