Lesser Black-backed Gull in St. Louis County

'Rare Regular' in Minnesota

Juvenile/first-winter Lesser Black-backed Gull, 19 November 2007, at the mudflats at the mouth of Miller Creek in Duluth. This is the same location where the two previous gulls posted on "Recently Seen" were photographed on 18 November: Thayer's Gull and Great Black-backed Gull – see directions included with the latter species. This photo is submitted to round out this trio of rare gulls seen here since last weekend. The Lesser Black-backed was present from the time I arrived at 3:00 pm until dark at 4:30 pm, and it was eventually joined by the Great Black-backed and an estimated 350 Herring Gulls. Bob Ekblad was also with me at the time, and we were later joined by Don Kienholz, but none of us were able to find the Thayer's Gull present here the previous afternoon.
