'Rare Regular' in Minnesota
John Sikkila (Hibbing)(E-mail:jjscanoe59@yahoo.com ) saw 2 American 3 toed woodpeckers Saturday Jan.12(approx. 11:00 am) on the Blue Spruce Road "211" (approx.a third mile north off of Hwy #133) in Meadowlands(Sax -Zim Bog area)...the birds were accompanied by a black backed woodpecker(further in the woods) also and were "working the trees" as about a dozen trees were nearly stripped of their outer bark and laying in the fresh snow...Nancy Jackson(Hoyt Lakes I think) was in front of me in her vehicle and the first "spotter" and quite quick to identify the woodpecker with her binoculars...thanks for the ID Nancy!...
