Common in Washington County in the Spring season

I think this is a first year male purple finch. Notice the red under the throat and over the eye. Yard bird - Cottage Grove, MN ----------------------------------------------------- Added note - Jim Fitzpatrick of Carpenter Nature Center informs me that some female purple finches also have some red feathers - so last spring's males cannot be determined with certainty until July, when they will have a lot more red than shown here - so much to learn.....Thanks Jim
