'Rare Regular' in Minnesota

Bass Ponds; perched in snag near shore of Long Meadow Lake from overlook near southwest end of Hogback Ridge pond. We watched this juvenile for 35 min. around noon on 8 Sept. It eventually flew off to the northeast into the marsh. Note the stout all-black bill (grayish base), long legs, small round spots on the coverts, and long slender neck (compared to Black-crowned Night-Heron). Susan and Bruce Fall, Minneapolis
