Swainson's Hawk in Wilkin County

Uncommon in Wilkin County in the Spring season

This Swainson's Hawk was found along the shoulder of Wilkin CR 4, 1/2 mile west of the Otter Tail-Grant county line, perched atop a dead Greater Prairie-Chicken. It is not known if it had predated the prairie-chicken (which would seem a large, atypical prey item for a Swainson's), or if it was scavenging on a possibly recent road-kill.
