Wilson's Plover in St. Louis County
2013-05-27

'Accidental' in Minnesota - Five or fewer records in St. Louis County for the Spring season

Just for fun, here is another shot of the Duluth Wilson's Plover seen on May 27th. It is the uppermost bird in the center, and even in flight the large bill can be seen. Although the bird hung out with the shorebird flock in this photo, showing Sanderlings, Semipalmated Sandpipers, and Ruddy Turnstones, it was more of a loose association, since it usually didn't fly with the other shorebirds when they got up and then returned to the beach. I was able to get this flight shot on one of the few occasions that the Wilson's Plover joined them. Although presumably the same Wilson's Plover was found on Wisconsin Point at Gull Bluff yesterday 28 May by Jan and Larry Kraemer, I am unaware of any sightings in Wisconsin or Minnesota today 29 May.
