Common in St. Louis County in the Summer season
Yesterday while birding in the Superior National Forest near the end of the Norway Trail off the Echo Trail, Sandy Kuder, Buffie Eicher, and Dee Kuder were very surprised to find a BOBOLINK! (photos taken by Sandy Kuder) This was right at the northern edge of the southern portion of the BWCAW. It was by an open area where the Nigh Creek crosses Forest Road 471. No settlements or open fields for miles around. We also found Common Nighthawk and a family of 6 Ruffed Grouse. There are many Cedar Waxwings in the area too. There will be a bumper crop of Juneberries this year and we found 2 Cedar Waxwing nests in close proximity to the berries. All the regular Wood-warblers that occur in this area are busy feeding nestlings.
