Common in Cook County in the Summer season

We came upon a pair of resident Common Loons besieged by black flies, and watched as one disposed of a predator damaged egg from their nest. This pair has nested on this lake for years, their original nesting area had a fallen dead spruce laying on the exact nest site. We cleared out the dead spruce, so that hopefully next year they will be able to return to their old site... Gunflint area lake.
