Common in Cook County in the Fall season
The lush birch canopy hides the hundreds of Pine Siskins that flew in to our ridge August 1. A continuous stream of Pine Siskins feasted on birch catkins this afternoon. These numbers were quite a sight to see this early in our summer season... it was impossible to count an exact number, but 300 is conservative. I am hoping this huge number arriving on August 1 is not a harbinger of an early winter.
