As has been the practice of this
Committee every five years, a new
Checklist of the Birds of Minnesota
was compiled and published in January
2004. There are now 427 Accepted spe-
cies, with a net increase of four species
since the previous Checklist in 1999: the
additions are Smew, Black Vulture, White-
tailed Kite, White-throated Swift, and
Costa’s Hummingbird (see record #2003-
80 below); deleted is Black Phoebe (see
record #2003-42 below). In addition, the
status of several species has changed in
the past five years:
