A couple more SNOWY OWLS were reported over the past week. A bird first reported by Eddy Edwards on the 15th along CR 26 approx. 0.8 miles from its intersection with CR 163 in Wilkin Co. was still in the area on the 19th. Maggie Anderson at Agassiz NWR in Marshall Co. saw a SNOWY OWL sitting on a muskrat house at Farmes Pool. Reportedly there are still a couple of other birds elsewhere on the refuge, but no specific sites were given. Blane Klemek observed a SNOWY OWL just west of the Wetlands, Pines & Prairie Audubon Sanctuary in Polk County this week. And lastly, Liis Veelma had a bird in Kittson Co. on the 18th, along Hwy. 75 just north of the town of Hallock.
Joe Gartner had 30 CEDAR WAXWINGS in his yard in Hawley, Clay Co. on the 17th. There were approximately 20 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS in Detroit Lakes, Becker Co. on the 21st.
Glenn Browne has a NORTHERN SHRIKE in his woods outside of Lancaster in Kittson Co. and Shelley Steva found a bird in Como Township of Marshall Co., north of Middle River on the 22nd.
COMMON REDPOLLS, EVENING GROSBEAKS and ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS are now being reported from various locations in the northwestern part of the state. A NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen at the Tamarac NWR in Becker Co. on the 22nd. NORTHERN CARDINALS were reported from Roseau, Marshall, Polk and Becker counties over the past couple of weeks also - a rare and welcomed treat for most of us!
