There were two reports of northern owls this week. About 1:00 pm on the 20th, Eddy Edwards observed an immature SNOWY OWL approximately 6 miles south of Fergus Falls in Ottertail County on County Road 15 at the intersection with 190th street. The bird was sitting in the edge of a field on a patch of snow. In Becker County, Kay Hartness found a GREAT GRAY OWL in Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge about 3/4 of a mile south of headquarters on County Road 29.

A female NORTHERN CARDINAL has been making sporadic appearances at the feeder of Art Welter in Thief River Falls, Pennington County, in the past weeks. He says he has had a visit from a female cardinal each fall or winter for the past three years, and that the bird only comes by every couple of weeks. The SUMMER TANAGER is still coming regularly to the feeder of Grace Mayta in Thief River Falls.

Ottertail County sightings reported by Roland Jordahl included two BALD EAGLES by Lake Lida, BELTED KINGFISHERS by Lake Lida and along the Pelican River in Pelican Rapids, and a GREAT HORNED OWL by the Pelican River near Pelican Rapids.

In Polk County, Randy Chaffee observed a possible RINGED TURTLE-DOVE at his feeder for two days. The bird has not reappeared . Other birds at the feeder include a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, and a GREATER PRAIRIE-CHICKEN picking corn under the feeder.

Shelley Steva saw a GREAT HORNED OWL in Red Lake County two miles north of Plummer along Highway 59. At Grace Mayta's and Norma Haugen's feeder in Thief River Falls, Pennington County, she saw COMMON GRACKLE, DARK-EYED JUNCO, BLUE JAY, BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEE, HOUSE FINCH, two WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH, and the SUMMER TANAGER whose red patches appear to be enlarging. 125 CANADA GEESE were seen flying over the city. Shelley reported seeing a NORTHERN SHRIKE in North Township of Pennington County on Sunday, November 17th. A COMMON RAVEN was also seen in Pennington County on Friday, November 15th.

Kittson County birds reported by Gladwynn Lynne include COMMON RAVEN, BLACK-BILLED MAGPIE, AMERICAN TREE SPARROW, DARK-EYED JUNCO, and AMERICAN GOLDFINCH in Lake Bronson State Park. Five or six immature BALD EAGLES are hanging around the park dam.
