As the temperatures plummeted, the feeder activity increased leading to lots of reports this week. The northwest didn't get the snow storm, but we have a light coating of snow, and very cold temperatures.Late migrants,including people,are probably feeling badly that they didn't get away sooner,

Gretchen Mehmel reported a NORTHERN HAWK OWL along Dick's Parkway in Lake of the Woods County north of the Morehouse Road.There were also PINE GROSBEAKS at the Norris Camp feeder this week.

Carol Parker in Warroad , Roseau County, has been having visits from a female NORTHERN CARDINAL , as lately as December 3. The bird has been coming around the noon hour.Beth Siverhus reported that their crabapple trees have been attracting AMERICAN ROBINS and EUROPEAN STARLINGS. On December 6, she observed a flock of crossbills near the Clear River.

Larry Wilebski in Kittson County saw a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, and three RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES at his cabin near Lancaster. On December 7, he found a SNOWY OWL between Orleans and Humboldt.

Mary Lou Marchand in Bemidji, Beltrami County on December 10 had 6 MOURNING DOVES , a PILEATED WOODPECKER, and a BROWN CREEPER in the yard. Gretchen Mehmel saw a NORTHERN HAWK OWL a few miles north of Waskish along MN 72 on December 3.

Diane Morkassel near Warren in Marshall County reported one GRAY PARTRIDGE , GREAT HORNED OWL, BLACK-BILLED MAGPIE, and an AMERICAN ROBIN on December 9.

Shelley Steva spotted a NORTHERN SHRIKE along MN 92 one mile into Polk County on December 5. Bruce Flaig reported a RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER and a large flock of AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES at the feeder on December 8.Donna and Leon Thoreson reported that their feeders were busy with one MOURNING DOVE, one DARK-EYED JUNCO, 50 -75 SNOW BUNTINGS, and about 25 AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES. A BALD EAGLE, GREAT HORNED OWL, and BLACK-BILLED MAGPIES were feeding on a road killed deer carcass. A PILEATED WOODPECKER visited Sandy Aubol's feeder in East Grand Forks on December 9.

Bob O'Connor reported that a late YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER visited his suet feeder in Clay County on December 4.

Zeann Linder saw many ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS soaring over Otter Tail and Wadena counties on December 6.

In Otter Tail County, Brad and Dee Ehlers reported more than one hundred TRUMPETER SWANS in the east edge of Fergus Falls on December 7. Alma Ronningen in Dent reported 15 CEDAR WAXWINGS, and a COMMON RAVEN on December 5 and on the 6th, a COMMON GRACKLE, COMMON REDPOLLS, and 7 PURPLE FINCHES at the feeder.

Judith Clayton in Alexandria, Douglas County, saw a flock of 50-75 SNOW BUNTINGS within the city limits on December 9.
