Winter temperatures have arrived along with a light covering of snow, making the area a whole lot brighter at night.

The Lewis's woodpecker that has been visiting the feeders of Janet Anderson in Roosevelt in Roseau County is still there as of this morning. The location is along CR 17 north of MN 11 in Roosevelt. The bird was first reported at the first house on the west side after you cross the tracks but it has been visiting other houses in the neighborhood most often the next house across the road in Lake of the Woods County. Please do not park in anyone's yard as the feeders can all be seen from the road.

Marshall Howe in Hubbard County reported dark-eyed junco on November 24 in Dorset, and a northern shrike on November 26. Bald eagle and trumpeter swans are being seen daily there.

In Polk County, an adult male snowy owl was seen on November 18 on the railroad tracks on MN 9 south of Crookston.Sandy Aubol reported that a northern cardinal had reappeared at her feeders in East Grand Forks on November 24 after a long absence. Other species seen there included cedar waxwings and purple finch on November 25. Leon Thoreson reported a northern shrike on November 23 at his place near Climax.

Andy Joppru reported large numbers of snow buntings along Pennington CR 3 and Polk CR 21 on November 26.

Heidi Hughes reported a snowy owl on 270th St one mile west of MN 89 in Roseau County on November 22.
