This is the Duluth Birding Report for Saturday, December 27th, 2003, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.
The HARLEQUIN DUCK in Two Harbors was still present today. A GLAUCOUS GULL was by the fish shop in Knife River today.
Don Kienholz has a HOARY REDPOLL coming to his feeders on Martin Road in Duluth.
Steve Weston found BOREAL CHICKADEES on St. Louis Cty Rd 52, .3 mile east of Owl Ave on the 25th.
Gordy Martinson reports that as many as 7 PINE SISKINS are coming to his feeder in Lakewood Township, the most in several years.
Repeating from recent updates, GREAT GRAY OWLS have been seen in recent weeks in Sax-Zim on Cty Rd 788, 2.6 miles north of 207, and on Cty Rd 213 3.6 miles north of the Sax Rd. In addition there have been reports of Great Grays in Aitkin County near the jct. of Cty Rd 18 and Pietz's Road.
THAYER'S GULL and GLAUCOUS GULL have been seen in the Canal Park Area in recent weeks, though none were seen today.
BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS have been seen on Cty Rd 213, 2.8 miles north of the Sax Rd.
No recent reports of Gyrfalcon or Snowy Owl.
